International Activity of Kazan State Institute of Culture
Kazan State Institute of Culture has a good rating among Russian institutes of higher education due to a high level of scientific work and innovation courses’ development.
Being located in the European part of Russia, in the centre of Kazan, ancient, rich on history, more than thousand year old city, noted for its cultural, scientific and educational life, the Institute offers all the advantages of contemporary institutes of higher education with an international reputation.
KazGIK is represented by more than 190 teachers, including 40 professors and Doctors of Science, 107 senior lecturers. About 70 professors and lecturers of the institute have honorary titles of Tatarstan Republic and the Russian Federation, among them there are winners of the state awards of the Russian Federation and Tatarstan Republic or International competitions’ laureats.
KazGIK fulfills 26 licensed programs of bachelors, 3 programs of masters, 11 programs of experts (PHD programs and assistantship and internship programs).
The Institute emphasizes environmental and interdisciplinary studies, the arts, humanities and social sciences. At KazGIK students have access to all resources of a whole Institute and its partners while enjoying all the benefits of arts and culture experience and its personalized approach to education.
The international activity is one of the priority directions of the development and modernization of our Institute and is considered as one of the strategic ways of expansion of its educational space, development of the university science, social and cultural interactions with the international educational institutions and the organizations.
To achieve the set purposes the Institute develops communications, direct contacts with foreign high schools and universities.
Nowadays there are agreements about the development of the University’s cooperation in the field of education, science and culture with the University of Alicante (Spain), International center of high technologies in the field of recreational technology and leisure development (Netherlands), Lycée of ZH.-B.Coreau (France), Fulbright foundation (USA), Public charitable organization of Tatarstan Republic «The tolerance Center «The world of Volga region», working in Tatarstan Republic within the Russian-American program «A trust climate », MOU with The State university of New York State (SUNY, the USA), The Baltic International academy (Riga, Latvia), Children's and youth’s international society «EVENTUS» (Riga, Latvia), Cinema, TV and Internet-communications Academy (Bolgaria), The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (Poland), Alliance Francaise-Kazan, Lugansk state institute of culture and arts (Ukraine), Komratsk state university (Moldova), Tashkent state institute of culture of A. Kadyri (Uzbekistan), Uzbekistan State Institute of Culture and Arts (Uzbekistan), Kirghiz state institute of arts of B.Beyshenalieva (Kirgizstan), Kazakh national academy of arts of Zhurgenev (Kazakhstan), Kizilorda State University of Korkit ata (Kazakhstan), Pavlodar State University of S. Toraygirov (Kazakhstan), Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts (Turkey).
According to the agreement with UNESCO’s special department of human rights and democracy of Moscow State University of International Relations of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Russian Federation in April, 2011 there was founded a branch of this department in the University.
Every year Kazan State Institute of Culture holds International Festival of Traditional Folk Art “Etnomiriada”, Kazan International Cinema Festival for young professionals and amateurs, International Scientific Conferences “Heritage of Lev Gumilev: Eurasian ideas of Lev Gumilev and the history of Eurasian nations”, “Historical and cultural heritage of Volga and Foreland Ural region as a potential for the development of tourist and recreational sphere of the area”.
The Head of Volga Region UNESCO Department Rafael Valeev is representing the Institute during UNESCO, ICOMOS, ICCROM Sessions around the world and has been responsible for preparation of Bolgar and Sviyagsk nominations to be included into The UNESCO World Heritage List.
There are different international events organized for our students and lecturers at the Institute. In 2012-2013 we held III and IV International Festivals “Parigevsk” with French partners, Seminars for the managers in the sphere of culture in the framework of Robert Bosch Fund and Goethe German Cultural Center Program “Managers in the sphere of culture of Robert Bosch Fund in the Russian Federation” (November 2011, March 2012), International Conference “Traditional and Dance Culture of the people of Volga and Foreland Ural region: research, education, art and functioning” (2013), etc.
Students and professors of the Institute take part in many International Conferences, Symposiums, Congresses, winning International Awards and Prizes. In April 2011 students of the Theatre Faculty won Grand-Prix of VI International Festival “Russian Universe” (“Ðóññêèé êîñìîñ”) with a performance “Dog’s heart” (Paris, France), in April 2012 third year Music Faculty student Yuliya Khusainova won in Russian Festival of French Music “Festichant-2012” and went to France in order to participate in International Festival of French Music in La-Rochelle (July 2012); Folk Music group of our University “Gomga kon” with Alsu Enikeeva at the head and our Dance ensemble “Saydash” with Tagir Latifullin at the head are the winners of many International Festivals and Competitions, including International Folk Festival “Eastern Wind” in Montvalezan, France. In 2016 our students participated in the Governmental Concert during the Days of Tatar Culture in Turkmenistan.
Our teachers and students are winners of international scientific grants of DAAD, Alliance Française, Russian and Tatarstan Presidential Grants, Algarysh Scolarship, Grants of the Governments of Russia and Tatarstan, Grants of the Ministry of Culture of The Russian Federation and The Republic of Tatarstan. In 2014 The Dean of Artistic Culture and Fine Art Faculty Albina Yarmukhametova and the Assistant to the Rector on International Affairs Aliya Khusnullina won the Grant of Tatarstan Ministry of Culture and went to special professional courses at Scientific and Research Institute of Theatre Art Accent in Berlin, Germany. In 2014 the lecturer of English and French languages Svetlana Belskaya won the Grant of Tatarstan Ministry of Culture and went to work in ZH-B. Coreau College in Paris, France. In January-April 2014 lecturers of Modern, Sports and Ballroom Dance Department worked at Colorado College in the USA. The Head of Piano and Music Theory Department Tatiana Gordeeva had an internship at European Academy of Music Therapy in Bolgaria. 9 students of Tourism Department went to Greece for a summer internship program on hospitality and tourism and 2 students from Izmir University participated in cultural and educational program of the Institute of knowledge transfer. In 2016 the Assistant to the Rector on International Affairs Aliya Khusnullina went to Austria for a special seminar on European education at The INNES Institute in Vienna. In 2016 the lecturer Yuriy Shcherbakov won Joint Algarysh-DAAD Grant and went to the Academy of Music and Dance in Germany. Our student Liliya Khayrtdinova won DAAD Grant to do Master’s on International Tourism in Germany.
Our international students actively participate in the work of International Student Association of the Republic of Tatarstan. Every year we celebrate International Students Day and organize different cultural events and concerts. As of 2016-2017 academic year there are about 80 undergraduate and postgraduate international students from Colombia, China, Vietnam, Turkmenistan, Latvia, Chad, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Guatemala, Abkhazia, Syria, Palestine.
For international students who don’t speak Russian we organize special one- year long courses of Russian language. Having graduated from this program they are able to enter bachelor, masters or PHD programs at our Institute or any other higher education institution in Russia.
The majority of KazGIK students live in residence of Students’ House. Institute Students’ House building is situated in the immediate proximity to the University: 15 minutes on foot from the Main Campus. The block of double, four-man or six-man rooms guarantee comfort living conditions.
Residential living enables students to share intellectual and educational pursuits while learning to live within a diverse community. It provides opportunities for individual growth through community involvement, interpersonal relationships and social interaction.
Participating in festivals and conferences is another opportunity to improve professional skills for students. KazGIK organizes about 15 annual festivals per year. Students become winners of contests and international festivals all over Russia and the world.
KazGIK celebrates cultural diversity and intercultural understanding. Students from different socio-economic, ethnic and geographic backgrounds come to KazGIK across the globe. In addition to learning from one another, students are encouraged to participate in international exchange programs available through Russia and Tatarstan’s study abroad programs, helping them learn a foreign language and deepening their appreciation of global diversity.
