Kazan State Insitute of Culture (KAZGIK)

Founded in 1969 Kazan State Institute of Culture (KazGIK) is a top-ranked arts and culture institution in Volga region of the Russian Federation. In 2002 it officially became Kazan State University of Culture and Arts. As of 25 June 2015 it gained the status of Kazan State Institute of Culture. It is a dynamically developing leading regional centre of culture, science, education and art. It combines deep special knowledge with a fundamental classical base and new educational technologies.

Kazan State Institute of Culture has a good rating among Russian institutes of higher education due to a high level of scientific work and innovation courses development.

Being located in the European part of Russia, in the centre of Kazan, ancient, rich on history, more than thousand year old city, noted for its cultural, scientific and educational life, the Institute offers all the advantages of contemporary institutes of higher education with an international reputation.

KazGIK is represented by more than 190 teachers, including 40 professors and Doctors of Science, 107 senior lecturers. About 70 professors and lecturers of the institute have honorary titles of Tatarstan Republic and the Russian Federation, among them there are winners of the state awards of the Russian Federation and Tatarstan Republic or International competitions laureats.

Kazan State University of Culture and Arts has about 2500 students, 7 Faculties, 23 Departments. 

Our faculties include:

  • Tourism, advertising and cross-cultural communications;
  • Dance;
  • Humanities and Social Studies; 
  • Artistic Culture and Fine Art.

 KazGIK fulfills 26 licensed programs of bachelors, 3 programs of masters, 11 programs of experts (PHD programs and assistantship and internship programs).

The Institute emphasizes environmental and interdisciplinary studies, the arts, humanities and social sciences. At KazGIK students have access to all resources of a whole Institute and its partners while enjoying all the benefits of arts and culture experience and its personalized approach to education.

Focused educational objectives guide undergraduates as they plan their academic careers. Students can work with faculty advisers to create their own special majors. They are encouraged to collaborate with community members on local projects and critically examine the effects of social and environmental policies. Students can actively participate in Institute governance by serving on committees and Student Council, the Institutes decision-making body.

Our international students actively participate in the work of International Student Association of the Republic of Tatarstan. Every year we celebrate International Students Day and organize different cultural events and concerts. As of 2016-2017 academic year there are about 80 undergraduate and postgraduate international students from Columbia, China, Vietnam, Turkmenistan, Latvia, Chad, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Guatemala, Abkhazia, Syria, Palestine.

For international students who dont speak Russian we organize special one year long courses of Russian language. Having graduated from this program they are able to enter bachelor, masters or PHD programs at our Institute or any other higher education institution in Russia.

The international activity is one of the priority directions of the development and modernization of our Institute and is considered as one of the strategic ways of expansion of its educational space, development of the university science, social and cultural interactions with the international educational institutions and the organizations.

To achieve the set purposes the Institute develops communications, direct contacts with foreign high schools and universities. 

Nowadays there are agreements about the development of the Universitys cooperation in the field of education, science and culture with the University of Alicante (Spain), International center of high technologies in the field of recreational technology and leisure development (Netherlands), Lycée of ZH.-B.Coreau (France), Fulbright foundation (USA), Public charitable organization of Tatarstan Republic The tolerance Center The world of Volga region, working in Tatarstan Republic within the Russian-American program A trust climate , MOU with The State university of New York State (SUNY, the USA), The Baltic International academy (Riga, Latvia), Children's and youths international society EVENTUS (Riga, Latvia), Cinema, TV and Internet-communications Academy (Bolgaria), The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (Poland), Alliance Francaise-Kazan, Lugansk state institute of culture and arts (Ukraine), Komratsk state university (Moldova), Tashkent state institute of culture of A. Kadyri (Uzbekistan), Uzbekistan State Institute of Culture and Arts (Uzbekistan), Kirghiz state institute of arts of B.Beyshenalieva (Kirgizstan), Kazakh national academy of arts of Zhurgenev (Kazakhstan), Kizilorda State University of Korkit ata (Kazakhstan), Pavlodar State University of S. Toraygirov (Kazakhstan), Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts (Turkey).

According to the agreement with UNESCOs special department of human rights and democracy of Moscow State University of International Relations of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Russian Federation in April, 2011 there was founded a branch of this department in the University.

The majority of KazGIK students live in residence of Students House. Institute's Students House building is situated in the immediate proximity to the University,15 minutes on foot from Main Campus. The block of double, four-man or six-man rooms guarantee comfort living conditions.

Residential living enables students to share intellectual and educational pursuits while learning to live within a diverse community. It provides opportunities for individual growth through community involvement, interpersonal relationships and social interaction.

Participating in festivals and conferences is another opportunity to improve professional skills for students. KazGIK organizes about 15 annual festivals per year. Students become winners of contests and international festivals all over Russia and the world.

KazGIK celebrates cultural diversity and intercultural understanding. Students from different socio-economic, ethnic and geographic backgrounds come to KazGIK across the globe. In addition to learning from one another, students are encouraged to participate in international exchange programs available through Russia and Tatarstans study abroad programs, helping them learn a foreign language and deepening their appreciation of global diversity.
